Darcy Dietrich Photography

Hi, I'm Darcy!

Ever since I first held a camera, I’ve been captivated by the way a single frame can freeze a fleeting moment. Photography, for me, is more than just a hobby—it’s a way of seeing the world. Through the lens, ordinary scenes transform into stories, emotions, and memories I might otherwise forget.

I love how photography demands both patience and spontaneity. It teaches me to slow down, to notice the subtle shifts in light or the expression on someone’s face just before they smile. Whether I’m wandering through a city or hiking through nature, my camera is an extension of how I connect with the world around me.

What Photography Means To Me

Photography changed my life

Photography helps me look at the world in a different way. Because of photography, I notice shapes and patterns that nobody else seems to notice, and I want to photograph them! I seem to pick out leading lines, or naturally occurring frames in the landscape, and I often pull out my phone to take a quick snapshot.

I truly believe that photography helps me enjoy my surroundings more. I have a new appreciation for the beauty of the earth, and I love sharing that beauty with others through my photos. More than just an artistic outlet, photography has become a way for me to be present, mindful, and more deeply connected to the world around me.

My favourite Photo

I have a difficult time choosing my favourite photo. It is a similar task to choosing my favourite song, or favourite food. It's not easy.

I find this photo keeps coming to the foreground. I took this from a tour bus while in Guatemala. The man is obviously blind, waiting for a safe time to cross the busy street. The moment reminds me to consider the context of photos and the world around me from different vantage points. Although this man is not aware of my visual presence, he is aware. I named this one "Ships Passing In The Day".

My Camera

I love my camera deeply—not just as a tool, but as a constant companion in my journey through life.

It's been with me across continents, capturing moments both grand and intimate, giving me the power to freeze time and tell stories through light and perspective. From quiet alleys in old towns to sweeping mountain vistas, it has helped me see the world more clearly and express the way I feel about it.
